National Library of Ireland Exhibition

Since the National Library of Ireland began sharing their photographic collections on Flickr in 2011, the NLI’s online volunteer Flickr community has grown to number 36,900 followers worldwide and has amassed over 122.6 million views. Not only do the NLI’s followers view the daily posted photos, they also then uncover information which is sometimes personal, often moving and always surprising. The exhibition celebrates the ingenuity, generosity and humor of the volunteers and the remarkable stories revealed by their research.

The Exhibition runs in the Theatre from Wednesday July 1st to Wednesday August 26th, and is open weekdays from 9.30am to 5.00pm – excluding 1pm to 2pm when the venue is closed for lunch. 

Please note the exhibition will be closed on Tuesday, July 7th & Monday, August 3rd.

When Bugsy Malone, a broke one-time boxer, meets Blousey, a wannabe singer, all he wants to do is spend time with her, even as two rival Al Capone-style gangs turn 1920s Chicago into a battleground.

Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since obtaining “splurge” guns (weapons that shoot cream!), so Fat Sam and his bumbling buffoons are in real difficulty.

Bugsy resists the advances of Fat Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah, but he’s tempted into involvement in the gangs’ feud when Fat Sam offers him handsome financial compensation.

Imagine being stranded with the legendary Joe Dolan in a rural pub in Cavan on the night his car breaks down. That’s just the sort of fantasy scenario that’s imagined in The Night Joe Dolan’s Car Broke Down, written and directed by Padraic McIntyre. The play is set on a stormy St. Stephen’s night as people gather to celebrate the 60th birthday party of the The Horse Munley. As the storm worsens and people head home, a knock to the door brings the night’s entertainment to a new level. As the play unfolds so too does personal secrets, the music and the craic, but the following morning lines blur between what actually happened and what has been imagined or wished for.   

With laser sharp accuracy and a perfectly tuned ear Padraic McIntyre untangles a surprising web of relationships in recent rural Ireland.
