The Other Abbey Players Present
A WAKE IN THE WEST
This ever popular and side-splitting comedy was written by Mayo-man Michael J Ginnelly. The play brings the 1970’s to life in the west of Ireland after Tom Healy drinks himself to death, his final wish being, to be buried in the drink at sea! Shortly before death, Tom acquired a new pair of false teeth, which cause absolute consternation on his death bed! Nothing brings Irish village life together more so than a wake and this rip-roaring comedy, is one that you will not want to miss!
The Other Abbey players are an experienced and very talented group, who have performed this play previously. The reaction was incredible, leading to the group restaging the production on two subsequent occasions. On this occasion, The Players have very kindly agreed to perform the production, in aid of a wonderful charity called “The Irish Pilgrimage Trust”.
“The Irish Pilgrimage Trust” is a very worthy and well established charity, which is in existence for over fifty years. The Trust involves volunteers, (who pay all their own expenses), fundraising to take groups of children and young adults with varying degrees of special needs to Lourdes for a holiday at Easter each year. The objective is twofold:
All proceeds of this particular effort will go to group 109 of the Trust. This group is based largely in the South Mayo, North Galway region. All concerned are most grateful to The “Other Abbey Players” for their efforts and generosity of spirit. Please do come along and support this most worthy cause. You will not be disappointed and will return home with sore sides from laughing!
