David Connor

in Concert

Wednesday, 29th December 2021

Doors: 7.00pm | Show: 8.00pm

Claremorris man David Connor will perform his very first headline show in the Theatre on Wednesday, 29th December 2021. David grew up listening to Irish and American Country music, MidWest Radio was a staple in the Connor household, as David says himself; “I was reared on Country”.

Drawing influences from Liam Reilly (Bagatelle), John Fogarty (Creedance Clearwater Revival) and Garth Brooks to name a few, David has always liked songs with good stories and great vocals.

David and his band “Southern Revival” have performed at many gigs and events around the West of Ireland. He has performed with a variety of artists including Finbar Furey, the Keane Family and Eunice Moran.

In August 2020, David shot to number 1 in the Irish iTunes Country charts, beating off competition from none other than Taylor Swift, with his catchy song: “You Couldn’t Have Come At A Better Time”. Written by Luka Bloom; “You Couldn’t Have Come At A Better Time” is a lively tune based on the air of the Kesh Jig. The song combines both the Folk and the Trad genres. Once David heard the song he felt it had the potential to crossover to the Country music genre too.

As one of the stars of the 2021 series of TG4’s long-running hit show, Glór Tíre, David made it all the way to the Grand Final, impressing judges and fans alike along the way with his calm, assured, and stylish performances.  All three judges; Jo NíChéide, Caitriona O’ Sullivan, and John Creedon, remarked upon the fabulous progress he made during the course of his journey to the final under the mentorship of Michael English, one of Irish country’s great gentlemen, songwriters, and entertainers.

From a man who had never been in front of TV cameras in week-one (and, as he has admitted himself, had all the signs of the nerves and shyness to show for it), David had – by the time he was among the last two standing – transformed into an entertainer who effortlessly gave the impression that appearing on national television had been his way of life for years. And that, by any measure, is no small achievement in a matter of just weeks.

But like all noteworthy journeys, it began with just one step. And the journey that would eventually lead to David surveying the summit of the iTunes Irish Country chart began when he stepped onto our stage here at Claremorris Town Hall Theatre for a Youth Variety Show back in 2005.

We knew David had something special back then and we couldn’t be prouder of what he has achieved to date, this is only the beginning.

Claremorris Town Hall Theatre Presents:

Mick Mulhern in Concert

Friday, 24th September

Doors: 7.00pm | Show: 8.00pm

Mick Mulhern released his debut album, “Stormy Horizons,” to critical acclaim in 2017.  Tony Allen of Irish super-duo Foster and Allen, described the  recording “One of the best Irish albums of the year.”

Mick, from Ballyvary, Co Mayo, has a rich voice influenced by country legends like George Jones, Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, Big Tom and Ray Lynam. Mick is one of the most requested and played singers on Irish Country radio stations. His influence has gone further afield. Recently, John Rex Reeves, a nephew of superstar Jim Reeves, recorded the Michael Commins-penned, “You Waltz So Softly Through My Mind,” after hearing Mick sing the song live.

Mick’s distinctive 2020 version of The Easter Brothers’ “A Heart That’ll Never Break Again,” proved very popular.  Mick says that the song meant a lot to him and he was delighted to record it and share it with country and gospel fans everywhere. Since then Mick has recorded “Souvenirs” which proved a massive airplay hit across the country.

Mick’s last release is another Michael Commins song -“My Old Home in Mayo.”

Limited ticket availability, book today to avoid disappointment.
